You have lost your independence.
Changes in communication such as stuttering or difficulties finding words can be extremely frustrating. Difficulties with memory loss can make navigating everyday life exhausting. Regardless of the cause, it has become more difficult for you to participate in activities that you enjoy. You may have noticed that you are relying heavily on family members or friends to help you remember day-to-day activities or communicate your needs to others. You know what you want to say, but it just won’t come out. This can be incredibly frustrating to experience.
You just want to get back to your normal self.
Will I ever go back to work?
Will I be able to drive myself again?
Can I improve my current situation?
How can I find a speech therapist near me to help?
Speech-language pathologists are highly trained to assess and treat cognitive disorders (such as memory loss due to a brain injury or disease), communication disorders (such as difficulties finding words or stuttering in adults), and swallowing disorders due to a stroke or brain injury.
The team at Advantage Therapy Services is experienced in helping people just like you. We can help you take back your independence, return to work or school, and help you get back to enjoying the activities that you used to love to do. Change is possible.
What does this process look like?
First, we will complete an in-depth analysis of your medical history, perform a full evaluation, and determine the severity of the changes that you are experiencing. The areas we will evaluate are:
Memory: how well you can recall information and stories
Attention: how well you can remain focused on a task
Communication: how well you can articulate a thought
Swallowing Function: how well you can safely swallow
After your initial evaluation, we will focus on the specific area that you want to work on and determine your strengths and weaknesses in those areas.
